Shaft Direction @ Top
What is Shaft Direction @ Top?
This parameter measures how “on-plane” your club is at the top of the backswing. An inside Shaft Direction @ Top indicates ”crossing the line”, while an outside value suggests a laid-off club.
What Should Shaft Direction @ Top Be?
If in doubt, 0° is a good target value for Shaft Direction @ Top. This is easiest to understand if you swing your club back all the way to parallel. At parallel, a 0° shaft direction means your club is pointing directly down the target line.
If your backswing is shorter than parallel, you should still aim for a 0° Shaft Direction. As Michael Breed mentions, your club will naturally point above and to the left (for a right handed golfer) of the target line. Since SkyPro's Shaft Direction @ Top parameter is measured to your swing plane, this doesn't matter: SkyPro still display 0° if the club head and grip are positioned correctly relative to each other. If it measures an inside value, that means your club head is closer to the target line than it should be.
When you find a Shaft Direction @ Top that works for you, groove that value.
